Acceptable Use Policy

What Obsidian may and may not be used for — the line that keeps the platform, its customers, and its providers safe.

Draft pending legal review. Effective date: TBD. Governing law: State of formation, TBD. Contact: [email protected].

1. Purpose

This Acceptable Use Policy sets the limits on what may be done with Obsidian. It protects the platform, its customers, their end-users, and the payment and infrastructure providers the platform depends on. It is part of the Terms of Service, and violating it can lead to suspension or termination.

2. You may not use Obsidian to

  • Break the law, or help others do so, or infringe anyone’s intellectual-property or privacy rights.
  • Build, distribute, protect, or deliver malware, ransomware, spyware, rootkits, botnet or command-and-control infrastructure, credential stealers, or tools whose purpose is unauthorized access to systems or data.
  • Harvest credentials, surveil people without authorization, or exfiltrate data you have no right to.
  • Commit fraud, launder money, or facilitate payment fraud, carding, or chargeback abuse.
  • Host or distribute content that is illegal, including child sexual abuse material, or that you lack the rights to distribute.
  • Attack, overload, probe, or circumvent the security of Obsidian or any third party, or evade the platform’s own limits, metering, or billing.
  • Impersonate others, or misrepresent your identity or your software to us, your end-users, or our payment processor.

3. Dual-use and good faith

Obsidian is security and licensing infrastructure, and some legitimate software is sensitive by nature. We judge use by intent and effect: protecting your own lawful software is welcome; using the platform as a vehicle for the harms above is not. If you are unsure whether a use is acceptable, ask us before relying on it.

4. Reporting abuse

To report a violation — abuse, malware, infringement, or illegal content served through the platform — contact [email protected] with enough detail to find it. We review reports and act on the levers available to us, up to suspending the responsible organization.

5. Enforcement

We may remove content, disable features, suspend an organization (which ends its sessions), or terminate access for violations, and we will cooperate with lawful requests from authorities. Where practicable we give notice and a chance to cure; serious or ongoing abuse may be acted on immediately to protect others.
